Spent metal and ceramic based automotive catalysts are a source of secondary raw materials containing precious metals:
- platinum ≤ 0.2 %
- palladium ≤ 0.3 %
- rhodium ≤ 0.1 %

In accordance with modern requirements for environmental safety, all cars are equipped with emission control catalysts to reduce toxic products in them.

Inside emission control catalysts, reactions occur on the surface of active metals (platinum, palladium, rhodium). Active metals themselves do not react and are not consumed during vehicle operation.

Today, the market of spent automotive catalysts is being formed. Catalysts are being collected and sent to specialized companies for recycling and further processing to obtain pure precious metals.
