Automotive catalysts

Spent metal and ceramic based automotive catalysts are a source of secondary raw materials containing precious metals:

  • platinum ≤ 0.2 %
  • palladium ≤ 0.3 %
  • rhodium ≤ 0.1 %
  • In accordance with modern requirements for environmental safety, all cars are equipped with emission control catalysts to reduce toxic products in them.
  • Inside emission control catalysts, reactions occur on the surface of active metals (platinum, palladium, rhodium). Active metals themselves do not react and are not consumed during vehicle operation.
  • Today, the market of spent automotive catalysts is being formed. Catalysts are being collected and sent to specialized companies for recycling and further processing to obtain pure precious metals.
